Set the DVR: ‘We Are Men’ Premieres Tonight!

We Are Men - CBS

WE ARE MEN is a single-camera comedy about four single guys living in a short-term apartment complex who unexpectedly find camaraderie over their many missteps in love. Carter, the youngest and most recent addition to the group, moved in after being ditched at the altar mid-ceremony, and is now eager to re-enter the dating scene and get on with his life with some guidance from his “band of brothers”: Frank Russo, a successful middle-aged clothing manufacturer and four-time divorcée who still fancies himself a ladies man; Gil Bartis, a small business owner who was caught having the world’s worst affair; and Stuart Weber, a speedo-wearing OB/GYN who’s hiding his assets until his second divorce is settled. Abby is Frank’s charming and attractive daughter, who stands as the one positive remnant from his failed relationships. Armed with a hot tub, pool-side barbeque and plenty of questionable advice, these losers in the marriage department take Carter under their wing to impart their own brand of wisdom about the opposite sex.

Set the DVR: ‘Once’, ‘Revenge’, ‘Betrayal’, ‘60 Minutes’, ‘Amazing Rave’, ‘Good Wife’, ‘Mentalist’, ‘Simpsons’, ‘Bob’s Burgers’, ‘Family Guy’ & ‘American Dad!’ Premiere Tonight!

Tonight is the biggest night of the Fall 2013 season so far as no less than 11 shows back from the summer hiatus! ABC, CBS and FOX are all in the mix tonight, FOX and CBS are airing 4 shows while ABC is airing 3, one of which is the newbie ‘Betrayal’.

Once Upon a Time – Season 3

This is Fairy Tale Land. It’s filled with magic, monsters and all of the characters we all know from stories growing up. It’s real, and so are the people in it. But unlike the “happily ever after” you may have heard about, their stories continued, and The Evil Queen cast a Dark Curse over the land….

This is Storybrooke. It’s a quiet, little, New England town filled with people who go about their everyday lives with no idea who they really are. The Queen’s Curse has trapped them here and placed her in near-complete control. They have no real memories and no real hope.

Once Upon A Time is, at its core, a story about hope.

“For us, that’s what a fairy tale is. It’s that ability to think your life will get better. It’s why you buy a lottery ticket—because if you win you get to tell your boss that you’re quitting and you get to move to Paris or wherever and be who you always wanted to be. And that’s Cinderella, right? One day she’s sweeping up and the next she’s going to the ball. Adam and I just wanted to write about something hopeful that for one hour a week allows one to put everything aside and have that feeling that your dreams just may come true.”
– Edward Kitsis, Co-Creator/Executive Producer

Revenge – Season 3

All the major players are back this season along with a couple of new faces. Emily is continuing her mission of revenge with the added task of trying to figure out what happened to her mother. Secrets were uncovered and it is discovered that when Emily was a child, her mother (Kara) tried to drown her and was placed in a mental hospital. After Amanda’s accident at Grayson Manor, Kara comes back and is clearly unstable. Emily eventually mends her relationship with her mother and leaves Emily’s life as abruptly as she returned. Aided in her mission to find her mother and seek revenge is Aiden, an old lover and fellow student of Takeda’s. Aiden was originally recruited by his sensei after his sloppy attempt to shoot a Russian mobster who had kidnapped and forced Colleen (his sister) into a life of drug abuse and prostitution.

The Graysons are dealing with troubles of their own. It turns out that Victoria faked her death and went into hiding after the plane crash. She had been working out a deal with Gordon for her and Charlotte to get new identities and escape. When her plans fell apart, Victoria schemed with Conrad to sick the police after Gordon instead. With nothing left to lose, Gordon attacked Emily in an attempt to retrieve an exonerating video, but ended up being shot by Aiden.

Daniel has been working with the Initiative and scheming to take over his father’s company. By “accident” (still unknown if this was an accident or not), Padma clued Daniel in to Grayson Global’s possible ownership of NolCorp, which turned out to be true. All while this was going on, Daniel had been guided into doing certain deals by Helen Crowley. Victoria was afraid the Initiative would do to Daniel what they did to David so she took care of Helen permanently (she killed her). Since Conrad was no longer employed, he decided he needed something new for himself. With the purchase of Ryans’ share of the Stowaway, he planned on converting Montauk (starting with the Stowaway) into the next Atlantic City and then move on to the Governor’s mansion. The casino business didn’t work out for him, but a run for Governor is still in his sights.

The Porter’s life becomes very interesting this year. Amanda has returned and is very pregnant. During her baby shower Amanda has a heated discussion with Victoria about David Clarke. The discussion ends with Amanda accidently falling off a 2nd story balcony; putting the life of her and baby in jeopardy. Eventually both of them pull through and she and Jack name their son Carl David Porter (after each of their fathers). As for Declan, he gets involved with the wrong crowd and ends up being caught for robbing homes. What he doesn’t know is the botched robbery was setup by the same man he robbed, Kenny Ryan (and his brother Nate). The brothers are looking for payback because years earlier Jack and Declan’s dad had a connection to the murder of their father. Through shady deals and a bit of manipulation, the two of them weasel their way into partial ownership of the Stowaway and start using it as a front for their criminal activities. Jack is not happy with this and arranges for the police to raid his bar (and get them arrested). The Ryans are warned of this and Jack is arrested instead. It would have been the end for Jack if not for the “charitable” nature of Conrad. The senior Grayson springs Jack and buys out the Ryans’ share of the bar to boot. Nate isn’t too happy about this turn of events. He meets with Conrad to find out what happened. Conrad gives him the scoop and implies that if Nate takes care of the Jack & Amanda problem, the casino would move forward with him still involved. Nate takes action and hides on Jack’s boat when the couple disembarks on their honeymoon. He emerges the next morning with a gun and every intention of hurting Jack and Amanda. This encounter didn’t end well for anyone though; Jack is shot, Nate blows up the boat and kills himself, Amanda dies in the aftermath, and Emily loses a friend.

Betrayal – New

Two lovers’ worlds will collide, culminating in a powerful and compelling story of sex, love, loyalty, marriage and treachery in the provocative, sensual and gripping new drama, “Betrayal,” premiering SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on ABC.

A chance meeting between Sara Hanley (Hannah Ware), a professional photographer, and Jack McAllister (Stuart Townsend), a top attorney, leads to an instant and undeniable attraction. Sara’s husband, Drew Stafford (Chris Johnson), is a successful prosecutor with political aspirations, and the couple have a seven-year-old, Oliver. Unbeknownst to Sara, Jack is in-house counsel to a powerful but somewhat shady entrepreneur, Thatcher Karsten (James Cromwell), and is married to Thatcher’s daughter, Elaine (Wendy Moniz). Elaine, secure in her relationship with Jack, is a smart, determined woman attempting to make her Chicago café a success on her own terms, as well as be a good mother to the couples’ 16-year-old twins, Valerie (Elizabeth McLaughlin) and Victor (Braeden Lemasters). However Sara and Jack both realize something is missing in their marriages, and fight against the realization that they’ve met their soul mates in one another.

As Sara and Jack struggle with their feelings and their guilt about their families, Thatcher’s brother-in-law, Lou, is murdered, and all evidence points to Thatcher’s mentally challenged son, T.J. (Henry Thomas). Sara discovers she’s in the middle of a nightmare when she learns that Drew will be the prosecuting attorney in this high-profile murder case, which can secure his political future, and that Jack will be the lawyer for the defense. The lovers find themselves in an impossible situation – on opposite sides of a murder investigation.

“Betrayal” stars Hannah Ware (“Shame,” “Boss”) as Sara Hadley, Henry Thomas (“E.T.,” “Gangs of New York”) as T.J. Karsten, Chris Johnson (“The Vampire Diaries”) as Drew Stafford, Wendy Moniz (“Guiding Light,” “The Guardian”) as Elaine McAllister, Elizabeth McLaughlin (“The Clique”) as Valerie McAllister, Braeden Lemasters (“Men of a Certain Age”) as Victor McAllister, with Stuart Townsend (“The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”) as Jack McAllister and James Cromwell (“Babe,” “American Horror Story”) as Thatcher Karsten.

“Betrayal,” based on the hit Dutch series “Overspel,” was written by David Zabel (“ER,” “Detroit 1-8-7”) and directed by Patty Jenkins (“The Killing,” “Monster”), and is executive-produced by Zabel, Lisa Zwerling (“ER,” “FlashForward”), Alon Aranya (“Red Widow”) and Rob Golenberg (“Red Widow”). “Betrayal” is produced by ABC Studios and is broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC’s selected HDTV format with a 5.1 channel surround sound.

60 Minutes – Season 46

60 Minutes is an American television newsmagazine program that is broadcast on the CBS television network. Launched in 1968, Don Hewitt created the program and set it apart by using a unique style of reporter-centered investigation. In 2002, 60 Minutes was ranked #6 on TV Guide’s 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time.

The Amazing Race – Season 23

THE AMAZING RACE is a multi-Emmy Award-winning reality series hosted by Emmy Award- nominated host Phil Keoghan, which pits 11 teams, each comprised of two members, against each other on a trek around the world for approximately 25 days. At every destination, each team must compete in a series of challenges, some mental and some physical, and only when the tasks are completed will they learn of their next location. Teams who are the farthest behind will gradually be eliminated as the contest progresses, with the first team to arrive at the final destination winning $1 million.

The Good Wife – Season 5

THE GOOD WIFE is a drama starring Emmy Award winner Julianna Margulies as a wife and mother who boldly assumes full responsibility for her family and re-enters the workforce after her husband’s very public sex and political corruption scandal lands him in jail. Pushing aside the betrayal and crushing public humiliation caused by her husband, Peter, Alicia Florrick starts over by pursuing her original career as a defense attorney. As a junior associate at a prestigious Chicago law firm, she joins her longtime friend, former law school classmate and firm partner Will Gardner, who is interested in rekindling their former relationship. The firm’s top litigator and other partner, Diane Lockhart, likes Alicia’s work and her connections so she and Will award her with a full-time associate position following a trial period. Alicia beat out Cary Agos, a clever young attorney who takes a job in the state’s attorney’s office, now bitter and vengeful. Alicia finds an ally and a friend in Kalinda, the firm’s tough and mysterious in-house investigator. Gaining confidence every day, Alicia transforms herself from embarrassed politician’s scorned wife to resilient career woman, especially for the sake of providing a stable home for her children, 14-year-old Zach and 13-year-old Grace. Now that Peter is back home and planning to run for office again with help from Eli Gold, his cunning image consultant, Alicia continues to redefine herself and her role in her family’s life.

The Mentalist – Season 6

THE MENTALIST stars Golden Globe Award nominee Simon Baker as Patrick Jane, an independent consultant with the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI), who has a remarkable track record for solving serious crimes by using his razor sharp skills of observation. Within the Bureau, Jane is notorious for his blatant lack of protocol and his semi-celebrity past as a psychic medium, whose paranormal abilities he now admits he feigned. Jane’s role in cracking a series of tough, high-profile cases is greatly valued by his fellow agents; however, no-nonsense Senior Agent Teresa Lisbon alternates between reluctantly acknowledging Jane’s usefulness and blasting him for his theatrics, narcissism and dangerous lack of boundaries. Lisbon’s team includes agents Kimball Cho, Wayne Rigsby and Grace Van Pelt, who all think Jane’s a loose cannon but admire his charm and knack for clearing cases.

The Simpsons – Season 26

The Simpsons is an American animated sitcom created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The series is a satirical parody of a middle class American lifestyle epitomized by its family of the same name, which consists of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie. The show is set in the fictional town of Springfield and parodies American culture, society, television, and many aspects of the human condition.

Bob’s Burgers – Season 4

The animated comedy BOB’S BURGERS returns for a well-done third season. The series follows the ups and downs of BOB (H. Jon Benjamin), who runs Bob’s Burgers with the help of his wife and their three kids. Bob has big ideas about burgers, but his family falls short on service and sophistication. Despite the greasy counters, lousy location and dearth of customers, Bob and his family are determined to make every “Grand Re-Re-Re-opening” a success.

Bob’s wife, LINDA (John Roberts), stands by her man, though she’s easily distracted. Their eldest daughter, 13-year-old TINA (Dan Mintz), has minimal social skills and is a hopeless romantic with a thing for zombies. Middle child GENE (Eugene Mirman), the only boy in the family, is an aspiring musician with a thirst for life and a hunger for food. LOUISE (Kristen Schaal) is the bunny ears-wearing youngest daughter with an off-kilter sense of humor that makes her somewhat of a liability in the kitchen – and with the public.
This season, Bob’s eccentric landlord Mr. Fischoeder (guest voice Kevin Kline) purchases a mechanical shark that threatens the town’s safety; the kids unwittingly get jobs working for a pair of married pot farmers; and Louise has an identity crisis when a bully steals her bunny ears. The upcoming season also features guest voices Zach Galifianakis, Nick Offerman, Jeffrey Tambor, Asiz Ansari, Bill Hader, Megan Mullally and Sarah and Laura Silverman.

BOB’S BURGERS was nominated recently for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program, its first in the category. It also was a 2012 Critics’ Choice Television Award nominee for Best Animated Series.

BOB’S BURGERS is a 20th Century Fox Television production. The series was created by Loren Bouchard (“Home Movies”). Bouchard and Jim Dauterive (“King of the Hill”) serve as executive producers and writers.

Family Guy – Season 12

Entering its 11th season, FAMILY GUY continues to entertain fans with its shocking humor, infamous cutaway gags and epic episodes. Since its debut, the show has reached cult status among fans, and its breakout star, a talking baby, has become one of the greatest TV villains of all time. FAMILY GUY has racked up numerous awards, including an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series, only the second animated series in television history to be honored with such a distinction.

The show follows the adventures of an endearingly ignorant dad, PETER GRIFFIN (Seth MacFarlane), and his hilariously odd family of middle-class New Englanders in Quahog, RI. LOIS (Alex Borstein) is Peter’s wife, a stay-at-home mom with no patience for her family’s antics. Then there are their kids: 18-year-old MEG (Mila Kunis) is an outcast at school and the Griffin family punching bag; 13-year-old CHRIS (Seth Green) is a socially awkward teen who doesn’t have a clue about the opposite sex; and one-year-old STEWIE (MacFarlane) is a diabolically clever baby whose burgeoning sexuality is very much a work in progress. Rounding out the Griffin household is BRIAN (MacFarlane), the family dog and a ladies man who is one step away from AA.

In the upcoming season, the Griffins embark on a hilarious trip to Italy, Peter discovers that he has a vestigial twin growing out of his neck and a love triangle emerges between Stewie, Brian and Stewie’s teddy bear, Rupert. Also, Peter and QUAGMIRE (MacFarlane) become a singing/songwriting team, in the vein of Simon & Garfunkel.

Guest voices scheduled for the 11th season include Conan O’Brien, Jeff Daniels, Michelle Dockery, Tony Sirico, Yvette Nicole Brown and Gary Cole.

FAMILY GUY is a 20th Century Fox Television production. Seth MacFarlane is creator/executive producer. Rich Appel serves as executive producer/showrunner, while Mark Hentemann, Steve Callaghan, Danny Smith, Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild are executive producers.

American Dad! – Season 10

AMERICAN DAD, the Emmy Award-nominated animated series that follows staunch GOP supporter and CIA agent STAN SMITH (Seth MacFarlane) and the misadventures of his unconventional family in Langley Falls, VA, returns for an eighth season.

Stan’s blissfully unaware wife, FRANCINE (Wendy Schaal), has an unfaltering loyalty that allows her to turn a blind eye toward Stan’s unabashed arrogance. Meanwhile, Stan constantly butts heads with his 18-year-old left-wing activist daughter, HAYLEY (Rachael MacFarlane), who knows just how to push her father’s buttons, whether it’s by helping the homeless, demanding women’s rights or advocating gun control. Hayley’s 14-year-old brother is the geeky, yet confident STEVE (Scott Grimes), a kid who spends his time playing video games and obsessing about the opposite sex.
The Smith cabinet is rounded out by two rather unconventional members: ROGER (Seth MacFarlane), the sassy, sarcastic and routinely inappropriate space alien living in the attic, who is constantly trying on new disguises, and with them, new personalities; and KLAUS (Dee Bradley Baker), the attention-starved goldfish with the brain of a German Olympic skier who always throws in his two cents, regardless of whether anyone is listening.

This screwball family, full of radically different personalities, is just trying to figure out how to love and trust one another in a bi-partisan world. And with a guy like Stan in charge of national security, it’s guaranteed to be one hilarious ride.

In the upcoming tenth season, the Smiths are back with more off-the-wall exploits that find Steve unsuccessfully attempting to use a CIA cloning machine to create a super-hot prom date; Francine teaching Steve how to shoplift; Stan teaching Steve how to hunt deer; Roger chasing ghosts; and Francine trying to relive the Smith kids’ childhood by taking a group trip to the “Familyland” theme park that ends up being anything but family-friendly. Guest voices next season include Mariah Carey, Ellie Kemper, Zooey Deschanel, Gary Busey, Thandie Newton, Mark Cuban, Cloris Leachman, Stanley Tucci, Nat Faxon and Jacki Weaver.

AMERICAN DAD is a 20th Century Fox Television production. Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman serve as co-creators and executive producers. Steve Callaghan also serves as an executive producer and showrunner.

Set the DVR: ‘48 Hours’ & ‘SNL’ Premiere Tonight!

48hrs 48 Hours is an American documentary television series that airs on CBS. The series has been broadcast on the network since January 19, 1988. The series airs Saturday nights at 10 p.m. (Eastern and Pacific time)/9 p.m. (Central and Mountain time) as part of the network’s placeholder Crimetime Saturday block; as such, the series is currently one of only two remaining first-run prime time programs (excluding sports) airing Saturdays on the major U.S. broadcast television networks, along with Univision’s Sabado Gigante. The program sometimes airs two-hour episodes or two episodes in a row on Saturday night depending on the subject involved or to counterprogram other networks.

The show drew its name, inspiration and original format from the September 1986 CBS News documentary titled 48 Hours on Crack Street, about the drug crisis plaguing a number of U.S. neighborhoods. The special attracted some 15 million viewers. Like the original documentary, the series originally focused on showing events occurring within a 48 hour span of time – hence the name. This format was eventually phased out by the early 1990s. One of the contributors to that program, CBS News Correspondent Harold Dow, had been a member of the 48 Hours air staff since its premiere. Dan Rather, at the time also hosting the CBS Evening News, was the primary host of 48 Hours for its first fourteen years on air.

Saturday Night Live – Season 39

“Saturday Night Live” will return to NBC on Sept. 28 with alum Tina Fey serving as host of the season 39 premiere. This will mark Fey’s fourth time hosting the latenight Peacock series since her departure as a cast member in 2006. She will be joined by musical guest Arcade Fire.

Waiting in the wings while Fey opens up the new season of “SNL” as host are Miley Cyrus and Bruce Willis. Cyrus will host and be musical guest on the show’s Oct. 5 broadcast, while Willis will host for the second time on Oct. 12 with musical guest Katy Perry. Host and musical guest announcements arrive as the cast for season 39 of “SNL” remains up in the air, after vets Fred Armisen, Jason Sudekis and Bill Hader all ankled the latenight sketch comedy show after season 38. Seth Meyers will remain aboard the series until December 2013, when he will then transition to hosting the Peacock’s “Late Night.” “Saturday Night Live” is produced in association with Broadway Video. The creator and executive producer is Lorne Michaels.

‘Breaking Bad’ Creator Vince Gilligan Books Detective Drama at CBS

Vince-gilligan-cookVariety is reporting that Vince Gilligan’s “Battle Creek” has nabbed a series production order for the 2014-15 TV season. CBS did not offer details on the specific episode order, but sources indicate that the Eye has offered 13 segs to the project.

“House” creator David Shore will be showrunner of the series and exec produce alongside Gilligan and “Breaking Bad” alum Mark Johnson. Gilligan is interested in helming the project should his schedule permit.

Michigan-set “Battle Creek” centers on two detectives with very different world views. As they team up, they must figure out if cynicism, guile and deception will help clean up the streets of Battle Creek, Mich., in the face of lack of resources or if naivete and trust will get the job done.

Sony Pictures TV, the studio behind “Breaking Bad,” will produce “Battle Creek” along with CBS TV Studios.

Project was created by Gilligan and developed at CBS in 2002 with Johnson’s involvement, fresh off Gilligan’s tenure writing and producing “The X-Files” for Fox. While Gilligan was a buzzed-about scribe thanks to his time on the popular sci-fi horror series, “Battle Creek” wasn’t ordered to pilot at the Eye and was eventually shelved.
