Box Office Winners December 20-22 2013

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

The battle between Dwarves and 1980’s newsmen is over, and the dwarves are victorious! ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ earned over $31 Million dollars this weekend, enough to allow it to keep its Box Office crown for another week. Meanwhile ‘Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues’ earned a respectable $26 Million, clearly not as big as Paramount was hoping, the film reportedly cost $50 Million to make, plus another $50 Million (or more) on very very heavy promotion. ‘Frozen’ is in the 3rd spot this week warning $19 Million, upping its total gross to $191 domestically. Jennifer Lawrence’s second film playing in theatres, ‘American Hustle’ earned a cool $19 Million, this film is getting a big boost from award nomination predictions and heavy promotion, meanwhile ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ came in at $9.3 Million this weekend.
