Maleficent

From Disney comes “Maleficent”—the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.

Skin Game: A Novel of the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher

Skin Game: A Novel of the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher

Harry Dresden, Chicago’s only professional wizard, is about to have a very bad day…

Because as Winter Knight to the Queen of Air and Darkness, Harry never knows what the scheming Mab might want him to do. Usually, it’s something awful. He doesn’t know the half of it…

Mab has just traded Harry’s skills to pay off one of her debts. And now he must help a group of supernatural villains—led by one of Harry’s most dreaded and despised enemies, Nicodemus Archleone—to break into the highest-security vault in town, so that they can then access the highest-security vault in the Nevernever. It’s a smash and grab job to recover the literal Holy Grail from the vaults of the greatest treasure hoard in the supernatural world—which belongs to the one and only Hades, Lord of the freaking Underworld and generally unpleasant character. Worse, Dresden suspects that there is another game afoot that no one is talking about. And he’s dead certain that Nicodemus has no intention of allowing any of his crew to survive the experience. Especially Harry.

Dresden’s always been tricky, but he’s going to have to up his backstabbing game to survive this mess—assuming his own allies don’t end up killing him before his enemies get the chance…

Charlie Cox is ‘Daredevil’ in Marvel/Netflix TV Series

Charlie Cox is 'Daredevil' in Marvel/Netflix TV Series

British actor Charlie Cox has secured the titular role of “Daredevil” in Marvel/Netflix’s upcoming live-action series, sources confirm to Variety.

The character was last seen on the big screen in 2003, when Ben Affleck donned Matt Murdock’s signature red horns. “Daredevil” is one of four Marvel properties set to headline serialized solo series set in and around Hell’s Kitchen, New York, along with “Jessica Jones,” “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage.” The quartet will then band together in a Netflix miniseries event titled “The Defenders.” The initial order for “Daredevil” is 13 episodes.

Cox played the role of Tristan Thorne in the 2007 film Stardust. He was next seen in the 2008 film Stone of Destiny in which he played Ian Hamilton. He made his West End debut in a double role of Harold Pinter’s The Lover and The Collection at the Comedy Theatre in London, and in the same year played the Duke of Crowborough in the pilot episode of the ITV drama series Downton Abbey. He also appeared in Kleist’s The Prince of Homburg, playing the title role, at the Donmar Warehouse in London in 2010. He played the part of St. Josemaría Escrivá in the 2011 Roland Joffé film There Be Dragons. Also in 2011, Cox signed on to play a recurring role in the second season of the Martin Scorsese-produced HBO original series Boardwalk Empire as an Irish immigrant with ties to the IRA. His character became a regular for the series’ third season, which began broadcast in September 2012.

Daredevil is a fictional character, a superhero that appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character was created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Bill Everett, with an unspecified amount of input from Jack Kirby, and first appeared in Daredevil #1 (April 1964).

Living in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of New York City, Matt Murdock is blinded by a radioactive substance that falls from an oncoming vehicle. While he no longer can see, the radioactive exposure heightens his remaining senses beyond normal human ability. His father, a boxer named Jack Murdock, supports him as he grows up, though Jack is later killed by gangsters after refusing to throw a fight. After donning a yellow and dark red, and later an all dark red costume, Matt seeks out revenge against his father’s killers as the superhero Daredevil, fighting against his many enemies including Bullseye and the Kingpin. Daredevil’s nickname is “the Man Without Fear”.

While Daredevil had been home to the work of comic-book artists such as Everett, Kirby, Wally Wood, John Romita, Sr., and Gene Colan, among others, Frank Miller’s influential tenure on the title in the early 1980s cemented the character as a popular and influential part of the Marvel Universe. Daredevil has since appeared in many various forms of media including several animated series, video games and merchandise, and the 2003 feature-length film “Daredevil”.

At sea, in pursuit of the shark, will he escape pirates and mutiny, forge the bonds of fatherhood, place his arm around his wife, find the monster of the deep, re-establish box office hegemony, and discover a reason to smile? 25 Years Ago: “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” Released

indiana jones and the last crusade

On May 24th, 1989 Paramount Pictures and Lucasfilm released the 3rd installment in the Indiana Jones franchise: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford are in top form in what can be considered one of the best outings for Indy, this film is more in keeping with the original’s sense of adventure, mystery and mythology. Spielberg himself has admitted that ‘Temple of Doom’, released 5 years earlier, was too dark and depressing, ‘Crusade’ lightens the theme while creating the same sense of danger and escapism.

Dr. Jones receives a mysterious package from his estranged father, Henry Jones, the contents are just as bizarre as their origins. Indy soon discovers that his father has disappeared while on assignment in Italy, an assignment to find the Holy Grail, the cup Jesus is said to have used during the last supper. His adventure begins in Italy where he is soon met by his father’s assistant, the lovely Elsa, but soon sends them on a worldwind adventure that sees the Jones family fighting Nazi’s, Holy Warriors and meeting knights from the middle ages!
