20/20 – ABC
20/20 is an American television newsmagazine (similar in depth to a print newsmagazine) that has been broadcast on ABC since June 6, 1978. Created by ABC News executive Roone Arledge, the show was designed similarly to CBS’s 60 Minutes but focuses more on human interest stories than international and political subjects. The program’s name derives from the “20/20” measurement of visual acuity. The hour-long program has been a staple on Friday evenings (currently airing at 10 p.m. Eastern Time, though sometimes extended one hour earlier, particularly during the summer months) for much of the time since it moved to that timeslot from Thursdays in September 1987, though special editions of the program occasionally air on other nights.
The Amazing Race – CBS
THE AMAZING RACE is a multi-Emmy Award-winning reality series hosted by Emmy Award- nominated host Phil Keoghan, which pits 11 teams, each comprised of two members, against each other on a trek around the world for approximately 25 days. At every destination, each team must compete in a series of challenges, some mental and some physical, and only when the tasks are completed will they learn of their next location. Teams who are the farthest behind will gradually be eliminated as the contest progresses, with the first team to arrive at the final destination winning $1 million.
Blue Bloods – CBS
BLUE BLOODS is a drama about a multi-generational family of cops dedicated to New York City law enforcement. Frank Reagan is the New York Police Commissioner and heads both the police force and the Reagan brood. He runs his department as diplomatically as he runs his family, even when dealing with the politics that plagued his unapologetically bold father, Henry, during his stint as Chief. A source of pride and concern for Frank is his eldest son Danny, a seasoned detective, family man and Iraq War vet who on occasion uses dubious tactics to solve cases with his loyal and tough partner, Detective Jackie Curatola. The Reagan women in the family include Erin, a N.Y. Assistant D.A., who also serves as the legal compass for her siblings and father, and single parent to her teenage daughter Nicky; and Linda, Danny’s supportive wife. Jamie is the youngest Reagan, a recent grad of Harvard Law and the family’s “golden boy.” Unable to deny the family tradition, Jamie has decided to give up a lucrative future in law and follow in the family footsteps as a cop.
Dateline NBC – NBC
Dateline NBC, or simply Dateline, is a weekly American television reality legal show/newsmagazine series that is broadcast on NBC. It was previously the network’s flagship newsmagazine, but now focuses mainly on true crime stories with only occasional editions that focus on other topics. The program airs Fridays at 10 p.m. Eastern Time (9 p.m. ET for special two-hour editions) and, after NFL football season, on Sundays at 7 p.m. ET. Two-hour feature-length editions sometimes air on any given scheduled evening, often to fill holes in the primetime schedule on the program’s respective nights due to program cancellations.
Hawaii Five-0 – CBS
HAWAII FIVE-0 is a contemporary take on the classic series about a new elite federalized task force whose mission is to wipe out the crime that washes up on the Islands’ sun-drenched beaches. Detective Steve McGarrett, a decorated Naval officer-turned-cop, returns to Oahu to investigate his father’s murder and stays after Hawaii’s Governor persuades him to head up the new team: his rules, her backing, no red tape and full blanket authority to hunt down the biggest “game” in town. Joining McGarrett is Detective Danny “Danno” Williams, a newly relocated ex-New Jersey cop – a working man in paradise who prefers skyscrapers to the coastline – but who’s committed to keeping the Islands safe for his 8-year-old daughter; and Chin Ho Kelly, an ex-Honolulu Police Detective, and former protégé of McGarrett’s father, wrongly accused of corruption and relegated to a federal security patrol. Chin’s cousin, Kono Kalakaua, is a beautiful and fearless native, fresh out of the academy and eager to establish herself among the department’s elite. McGarrett, repairing his relationship with his estranged sister Mary Ann, vows to bring closure to their father’s case, while the state’s brash new FIVE-0 unit, who may spar and jest among themselves, is determined to eliminate the seedy elements from the 50th state. Peter Lenkov, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are executive producers for CBS Television Studios.
48 Hours – CBS
48 Hours is an American documentary/news magazine television series that airs on CBS. The series has been broadcast on the network since January 19, 1988. 48 Hours airs Saturday nights at 10 p.m. (Eastern and Pacific time)/9 p.m. (Central and Mountain time) as part of the network’s placeholder Crimetime Saturday block; as such, the series is currently one of only two remaining first-run prime time programs (excluding sports) airing Saturdays on the major U.S. broadcast television networks, along with Univision’s Sabado Gigante. The program sometimes airs two-hour episodes or two episodes in a row on Saturday night depending on the subject involved or to counterprogram other networks.
