This season’s dynamic lineup of stars includes two Olympic Gold Medalists, a game show host, a swimming legend and a teen pop star. In a first for “Dancing with the Stars,” the competition will feature a new game-changing twist called “The Switch Up.” This season, America will be given the power to vote and change celebrities and professional dance pairings. This new rule will affect all couples as they will be required to switch partners at a point in the season. Never before have dance partnerships been split up during the course of competition.

Bits & Bytes: Latest TV and Movie News Updates

charmed

CBS may be casting a spell in its development offices just in time for Halloween, as the Eye is working on a reboot of witch drama “Charmed.” Variety has confirmed the reboot is in its early stages with just a script deal, but has “Party of Five” co-creator Chris Keyser and Sydney Sidner co-writing the show. Keyser will exec producer, and Sidner will co-exec produce. CBS TV Studios is producing with Tannenbaum Company. The reboot is described as a “re-imagining of the original series centered around four sisters who discover their destiny – to battle against the forces of evil using their witchcraft.”

dads-SN

Fox has given a back-nine pickup to “Dads,” the frosh live-action comedy from Seth MacFarlane and “Ted” scribes Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild.

The order for the 20th Century Fox TV comedy had been expected, especially after Fox renewed its other new Tuesday comedy “Brooklyn Nine Nine” last week. “Dads,” which stars Seth Green and Giovanni Ribisi as two guys who live with their oddball fathers (Martin Mull and Peter Riegert), is notable for being the net’s first multi-camera comedy in years.

“Dads” has so far delivered only modest numbers in the lead-off 8 p.m. slot. But its delayed-viewing stats are respectable and the show is a draw with young men. For its first three telecasts, “Dads” has drawn 14.7 million viewers when DVR, VOD and streaming numbers are factored in with its live ratings. In its most recent outing, “Dads” delivered 3.6 million viewers and 1.4 rating/4 share in adults 18-49, in Nielsen’s live plus same-day rating.

5624_world_of_warcraft_hd_wallpapers

After a lengthy search, Legendary Entertainment has found its leading man for the upcoming adaptation of “Warcraft,” tapping Travis Fimmel to star.

No formal offer has been presented yet but sources say he is their guy for one of the four leads in the film.

Fimmel is the star of History Channel’s “Vikings,” which is currently in production on season two. Duncan Jones (“Source Code”) will direct the “Worldcraft” feature from a script by Charles Leavitt. Paula Patton is in talks to co-star and Colin Farell also has an offer but his deal is not as far along. Details on the plot or the character Fimmel will play are still unknown. Based on the Blizzard Entertainment game “World of Warcraft,” studios have been trying for some time to get this adaptation off the ground with Sam Raimi at one point attached to direct.

Walking Dead

AMC has handed a fifth season to juggernaut zombie drama “The Walking Dead.”

Program ranks as the number one show on TV among adults 18-49, and the season four premiere drew over 16 million viewers, a new record for AMC. With L+3 numbers taken into account, “Walking Dead” secures over 20 million viewers.

“We are very happy to make what has to be one of the most anti-climactic renewal announcements ever: ‘The Walking Dead’ is renewed for a fifth season,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “This is a show that has erased traditional distinctions between cable and broadcast. Its expanding base of passionate fans has grown every season, most recently – and most notably – with the season four premiere earlier this month, which broke viewership records for the series and became the biggest non-sports telecast in cable history. On behalf of the incredible team on both sides of the camera, thank you to the fans and here’s to more ‘Dead.’”

DWS13_LOGO_v3ba300

ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” edged up (2.1/5 in 18-49, 13.28m), finishing up a tick vs. last week.

NBC and Fox were neck and neck for leadership among young adults on Monday, as the Peacock’s “The Voice” and “The Blacklist” held up nicely opposite the World Series.

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, “The Voice” averaged a 4.2 rating/11 share in adults 18-49 and 13 million viewers overall from 8 to 10 p.m., on par with last week and winning in all four half-hours. And at 10, “The Blacklist” (3.1/8 in 18-49, 10.7 million viewers overall) looks to be up slightly vs. last week for a three-week high and a solid second-place finish among the broadcasters for its hour.
