Set the DVR! “Bones”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, “How to Get Away With Murder”, “Parenthood”, “Scandal” Premiere Tonight!

Bones – FOX

BONES, a darkly amusing procedural entering its ninth season, is inspired by real-life forensic anthropologist and novelist Kathy Reichs. DR. TEMPERANCE BRENNAN (Emily Deschanel) is a highly skilled forensic anthropologist who works at the Jeffersonian Institutein Washington, D.C., and writes novels on the side. When the standard methods of identifying a body are useless (ie. the remains are so badly decomposed, burned or destroyed), law enforcement calls on Brennan for her uncanny ability to read clues left behind in the victim’s bones.

Grey’s Anatomy – ABC

Grey’s Anatomy is the recipient of the 2007 Golden Globe® Award for Best Television Series – Drama, and multiple Emmy nominations, including two for Outstanding Drama Series. The doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital deal with life-or-death consequences on a daily basis-it’s in one another that they find comfort, friendship and, at times, more than friendship. Together they’re discovering that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white. Real life only comes in shades of grey.

How to Get Away With Murder – ABC

Annalise Keating (Academy-Award Nominee Viola Davis) is everything you hope your Criminal Law professor will be – brilliant, passionate, creative and charismatic. She’s also everything you don’t expect – sexy, glamorous, unpredictable and dangerous. As fearless in the courtroom as she is in the classroom, Annalise is a defense attorney who represents the most hardened, violent criminals – people who’ve committed everything from fraud to arson to murder – and she’ll do almost anything to win their freedom. On the surface, Annalise seems like she has it all – a successful career and loving husband, Sam (Tom Verica) – but her relationship with a local Philadelphia detective, Nate (Billy Brown), will force her to confront secrets about her life she never saw coming.

Each year, Annalise selects a group of the smartest, most promising students to come work at her law firm. The students vying for this coveted position include Wes Gibbins (Alfred Enoch), a wide-eyed, likable boy-next-door recently accepted off the waitlist; Michaela Pratt (Aja Naomi King), a confident, ambitious overachiever born knowing how to “lean in;” Connor Walsh (Jack Falahee), a sly, sophisticated heartbreaker used to getting any prize he lays his eyes on; Laurel Castillo (Karla Souza), a quiet, sensitive idealist who’s easy to underestimate and Asher Millstone (Matt McGorry), an entitled know-it-all born into a world of Ivy League educations and country club memberships. The students all work under two of Annalise’s dedicated associates: Frank Delfino (Charlie Weber), a local Philly boy done good, and Bonnie Winterbottom (Liza Weil), a sweet, observant team-player with a hidden edge.

Parenthood – NBC

“Parenthood” is the critically acclaimed one-hour drama inspired by the box office hit of the same name. This reimagined and updated Universal Television/Imagine Entertainment production follows the trials and tribulations of the very large, colorful and imperfect Braverman family. Sarah Braverman (Lauren Graham, “Gilmore Girls”) is a single mother with two kids: bright but rebellious Amber (Mae Whitman, “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”), who is living on her own, and sullen and sensitive Drew (Miles Heizer, “ER”) who heads to Berkeley this year. On the home front, Sarah’s larger-than-life, headstrong father, Zeek (Craig T. Nelson, “Family Stone,” “Coach”), and pillar-of-strength mother, Camille (Bonnie Bedelia, “Heart Like a Wheel”), are continuously dealing with their own marital issues.

Although each sibling and family has its own share of life and everyday challenges to grapple with, they still manage to be there for each other in their hours of need. Serving as executive producers are Oscar winners Ron Howard and Brian Grazer (“A Beautiful Mind,” “Frost/Nixon”), Emmy winner Jason Katims (“Friday Night Lights”), Lawrence Trilling (“Pushing Daisies”) and David Hudgins (“Friday Night Lights”).

Scandal – ABC

Everyone has secrets… and Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) has dedicated her life to protecting and defending the public images of the nation’s elite by keeping those secrets under wraps. Pope’s team are at the top of their game when it comes to getting the job done for their clients, but it becomes apparent that these “gladiators in suits,” who specialize in fixing the lives of other people, have trouble fixing those closest at hand — their own. The series is created by Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice). Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers (Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice) and Mark Wilding are executive producers. Judy Smith is co-executive producer.

Feel Old Now! Queen’s “The Miracle” Released 25 Years Ago Today!

Queen_The_Miracle On May 22nd 1989 the rock band Queen released their 13th album ‘The Miracle’. The album was recorded as the band recovered from Brian May’s marital problems and Freddie Mercury’s AIDS diagnosis (which was, though known to the band, not publicised at the time). Recording started in January 1988 and lasted twelve months.

The album was originally going to be called The Invisible Men, but three weeks before the release, according to Roger Taylor, they decided to change the name to The Miracle. The album reached #1 in the UK, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, and #24 on the US Billboard 200 chart. The Miracle is estimated to have sold 9.5 million copies. Allmusic would name it as Queen’s best album of the 1980s, along with The Game. Buy Queen’s “The Miracle” on iTunes or Buy Queen’s “The Miracle” on Amazon

Bits & Bytes: Latest TV & Movie News Updates

Pickups and Episode Orders

ABC has given a full-season vote of confidence to its Tuesday comedies “The Goldbergs” and “Trophy Wife.”

The Alphabet ordered the back-nine episodes of “Goldbergs” and “Trophy Wife” and also ordered four more episodes of Wednesday comedy “Super Fun Night.”

The Tuesday frosh laffers have performed respectably on a tough night for ABC against “NCIS: LA” competition on CBS and “The Voice” on NBC. The network gambled this year in fielding all new series on Tuesday. That strategy took a hit early on when 10 p.m. drama “Lucky 7″ was axed after two low-rated airings. Continue reading
